In September 2018, work will begin on the new 3,360 m
Castelbello and Colsano bypass, which will lighten transit traffic within the
two towns and improve the traffic movement on the road to the Stelvio pass. The
main structure is the new 2,495 m long tunnel (the second longest in South
Tyrol) which will have 4 escape routes (every 500 m) and 4 emergency pitches.
There will be two distinct differences in the building of this tunnel, firstly concrete flooring, which increases safety in
case of fire and allows the reduction of maintenance costs; and secondly the
ventilation system that, through an air gap, allows the extraction and
expulsion of fumes in case of a sudden accident inside the tunnel.
There will be two new connection points to the existing main
road. The point of intersection to the east is set up with a roundabout and is
located at the industrial area of Colsano. The second connection is being built
as a T-junction and is located about 450 m west of Castelbello Castle.
It is expected that the construction works will take about 4
years. For further information click it/261. Go to http://www.provincia.bz.it/news/it/news.asp?news_action=4&news_article_id=617239
